Robert Hall Weir: rhythm guitar, occasional lead, the cowboy songs. Joined at 16 after Garcia heard him goof a Jorma part. He turned the rhythm-guitar role on its head: no chord pads, just inverted voicings and counterlines that argued with Garcia all night. The Bobby ballads, Looks Like Rain, Cassidy, Estimated Prophet, anchor the back half of any setlist. He died on January 10, 2026, at 78, not long after his final performance at a Grateful Dead 60th anniversary run in Golden Gate Park the previous August.
